Practice Protocol
Includes clothing requirements, tools, uniforms, and other gear.

WHAT TO BRING TO PRACTICE CLOTHING REQUIREMENTS
Proper attire is required for all practices. This will vary depending on the season and if practice is on land or water. In general, it includes tighter fitting clothes, layering pieces, running sneakers, water bottles (preferably reusable), and sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sun screen). No bare chest or sports bra only allowed! While weather conditions will dictate what clothing is appropriate, all rowers should be prepared with a variety of layers to accommodate changing conditions. Brightly colored shirts are highly encouraged on the water to enhance visibility. Athletes should make a habit of checking the weather forecast before coming to practice. Coaches will NOT allow ill-prepared athletes to row on the water! Coxswains will want to have a few extra warm layers, especially on the colder days. We do have a few “cox suits'' that we lend to coxswains to wear for warmth. If a coxswain wants to get their own suit here is a link to the best option. On warm sunny days a hat and sunglasses will be a must.
UNIFORMS AND OTHER GEAR
An WBC racing uni or tank top is required for racing at regattas. An online store will open for a short period at the beginning of each season. There are a variety of clothing and gear options available including training gear, backpacks, casual gear, jackets, hats, etc. A unisuit is required, all other gear is optional. We do encourage athletes to dress uniformly at regattas. Please see the Regatta Page for more info on what to bring to a regatta.
RIGGING TOOLS (REQUIRED FOR THOSE THAT RACE)
In addition to being properly dressed, athletes should have with them at all times a few rigging tools so that they can properly care for the boats they are rowing in. These tools include: a couple 10mm wrenches (ratchet wrenches are nice but not necessary) a couple 7/16 or 11mm wrenches (sizes are interchangeable) a small adjustable wrench an allen key set a flat head and a phillips head screwdriver
TRAINING TOOLS (OPTIONAL)
Heart Rate Monitor - There are a variety of different HR monitors available. Athletes can choose the one that they like best. Polar and Garmin are popular brands that will connect wirelessly to the erg monitors.
NK Stroke Coach - is a specific tool that is used by the rowers in the boat to measure time, speed, and stroke rate. Ordering information can be found here https://nksports.com/category-rowers/speedcoach-gps-2.
Coxswains will use a CoxBox on the water to help amplify their voice in the boat and to measure boat speed/stroke rate. We have CoxBoxes for them to use but if a coxswain would like their own here is a link to the NK CoxBox.
